Ever since I started designing with WordPress, what I’ve found to be one of the most useful features is the custom fields section. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create thumbnails on the Post Index page of your site but not in the actual post itself.
First, we have to actually add the custom field. To do this, create a new post and scroll down to the box titled “Custom Fields”. Under “Name” write the word “Thumbnail” (without the quotes). Click “Add Custom Field”. Using WordPress image upload, upload an image. DO NOT HIT “INSERT INTO POST”. Underneath the picture you should see the URL of the image you have just uploaded.
